The summer holidays are drawing to an end and for many of you it will be that nerve wracking time where new schools need to be chosen. Here is our guide to some of the best institutions in Hampshire to help you make a decision:

St Nicholas School

We offer small class sizes and treat our pupils as individuals.

We aim to develop every pupil to their full potential in all areas of the currciulum. Our facilities are second to none as is our GCSE record.

Contact: St Nicholas School, Redfields House, Redfields Lane, Church Crookham, Fleet, Hampshire GU52 0RF, 01252 850121,

Open day dates: 5th November, 10am to 1pm.

When I joined St Nicholas School four years ago, it was a big change but one for the better. I had been in a class of 35 children and now appreciate the much smaller class sizes. I know my classmates really well and receive individual attention from my teachers. The school has given me so many wonderful opportunities and allowed me to thrive in all my subjects, both academic and extra-curricular. I belong to the Swing Band, two senior choirs and enjoy extra sporting activities. We are always encouraged to try everything and be the best we can be.

King Edward VI School

At King Edwards we are renowned for academic excellence. However we also want pupils to exploit the myriad of co-curricular opportunities on offer, in order to broaden their horizons, learn new skills, serve their community and contribute to a lively and flourishing school.

Contact: Wilton Road, Southampton,
SO15 5UQ, 02380 704561,,

Open day dates: 11th November 2011, 6.30pm to 9.00pm.

Not one day seems to pass by without an activity, meeting or sports fixture taking place at King Edwards. There is no doubt that this school has a lot to offer by means of co-curricular activity, whether in relation to sport, music, art, drama or indeed academic societies. However, what is significant about the nature of this involvement is that students participate out of desire not obligation. There is a vast amount of encouragement and opportunity at KES, and it is this which I think provides a constant willingness to involve oneself in all activites.

Alton Convent School

At Alton Convent School, we nurture, extend and challenge all our pupils. We have a strong tradition of academic excellence with a huge commitment to extra curricular activities, including sport and the arts. We aim to meet the individual needs of every single pupil within the context of an outward looking, dynamic and responsive school community.

GU34 2NG, 01420 82070,,

Open day dates: Year 7 Entry 2011
transition Evening 6.45pm for
7:00pm September 27.

Sixth Form Open Evening
6.45 for 7:00pm October 5.

Whole School Open Morning
9:30 12:00 October 14.

Alton Convent School is just a little bit exceptional, a small but perfectly formed community. Our academic results speak volumes for the passionate teaching and small classes that allow the individual to blossom. During my time at ACS I have surprised myself, raising over 1,400 to fund a charitable trip to India, stretching myself academically and becoming School President. Alton Convent has helped realise my potential as an independent, young woman. As I leave I remain part of a family, one that I can always rely on.

Collegiate School

Hampshire Collegiate School is a school that is really going places. There is a collective energy about our 130 acre campus which provides us the beautiful space to develop the best in everyone.

Contact: Hampshire Collegiate School, Embley Park, Romsey, SO51 6ZE, 01794 512206,,

Open day dates: September 22, 10.00am to 3.00pm, October 12, 10.00am to 3.00pm, Open Morning and Entrance Exam Day: January 14, 2012 9.00am to 12 noon.

HCS has allowed me to fulfil my potential. The school has opened up new opportunities I would not have previously considered. Being a boarder has given me the independence that I know will be crucial in later life. HCS provides the perfect environment to prepare a student for the future.

HCS has given me opportunities and experiences I wouldnt have gained elsewhere. Through brilliant teaching, I attained 8A*s and 4As at GCSE, giving me a great start towards Sixth Form life. The school has always been supportive with my outside sporting achievements, as I play under 18/16 England Hockey.

Rookwood School

Were incredibly proud of our ability to support and develop the individual, ensuring each child is given every opportunity to achieve their full potential. Rookwood is a non-selective school and yet we consistently deliver high academic results - testament to our small class sizes and dedicated teaching.

Contact: Rookwood School, Weyhill Road, Andover, Hampshire, SP10 3AL, 01264 325900,

Open Day Dates: 29th September 2011, 26th January 2012 and 8th May 2012

Ive been at Rookwood for ten years now and I wouldnt have wanted to spend those ten years anywhere else, Its a fantastic place to be! Because we have small classes you get to know everyone in the school and, more importantly, all the teachers get to really know you too. Theyre always willing to spend time with you so you really feel like an individual. By the time you get to your final year you know theyve done everything possible to help you achieve your maximum potential.

The Kings School

We provide Christian education for children aged 3 to 16 years. Over the last five years the school has grown significantly and a 1.2m building programme has provided additional accommodation and has been designed to complement the beautiful 4 acre site.

Contact: The Kings School, Lakesmere House, Allington Lane, Fairoak, Eastleigh, Hampshire, SO50 7DB, 02380 600986.

Open day dates: 24th September 10.30am to 12.00, 26th September 10.00am to 2.00pm, 3rd March 10.30am to 12.00 and 23rd June 10.30am to 12.00noon

I will never regret my decision to join The Kings School. Not only did Kings offer me personalised learning tailored to my individual needs, but provided me with a Christ-centred education that will be my rock and fortress for the years to come. My time at Kings led to a deeper and more real relationship with God, a mindset which helped me achieve my best potential in the academic arena. The unique teacher-student relationships are professional and yet create a friendly and familial atmosphere, a comforting and encouraging learning environment.
