With festival fever taking hold in Hampshire, Natalie French has rounded up a selection of the best food/drink events to enjoy across our county this year

Hampshire Food Festival

This month-long fest offers a plethora of events to showcase the county’s abundant food and drink producers including: Hampshire Vineyards Festival at Hambledon; Lyburn Farm Cheese tours and plenty of tastings, workshops and chef demonstrations. Hampshire Fare Chairman, Mike Wright, says: “Food and drink is at the heart of communities, and essential to our health, quality of life, and to our local economy and our tourism market. The Hampshire Food Festival is an integral part of that and is a huge draw for locals and visitors.” Having won Gold as Tourism Event of the Year at the Beautiful South Awards for last year’s festival, this year celebrates its 15 year anniversary.

• When: 1 July - 2 August

Wine Festival Winchester

Whether you’re a novice or an established wino, Winchester’s Wine Festival held at the Guildhall promises to be a merry affair. Swirl, sniff and sip your way through hundreds of delicious wines including some of Hampshire’s finest producers. A smart colour-coded system will help direct you to wines that suit your tastebuds, plus Susie and Peter, Masters of Wine from BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen, will be on hand to point you in the right direction. Taxi home essential!

• When: 27 – 29 November

• Find out more and book tickets from £25 at www.thewinefestival.co.uk

Somerley Beer & Music Festival

Spend your August bank holiday sampling over 125 real ales and ciders, or an obligatory summer-time Pimms, within the beautiful walled garden at Somerley Beer & Music Festival. Perfectly chilled, you can sprawl out and listen to live bands, whilst feasting on a hog roast or a little local something from the Farmers Market style stalls. Under 16s go free and there’s even a bouncy castle for the younger ones.

• When: 29 August

• Find out more and book tickets from £5.78 at www.somerleybeerfestival.com

.

Isle of Wight Garlic Festival

One of Britain’s top foodie festivals returns in a pungent whiff this summer. Black garlic, smoked garlic, elephant garlic, wild garlic, spicy garlic chutneys, garlic mayonnaise, garlic butter, garlic ice cream, even garlic beer…it’s fair to say this is a garlic lover’s paradise. Fill your belly and your basket with produce grown on the multi-award-winning Garlic Farm in Newchurch, before enjoying cookery demonstrations in the Theatre Kitchen, live music and plenty of entertainment for the kids.
