Music, magic, markets and special guest appearances are just some of the delights on offer at Christmas light switch-on events this year in Hampshire

Winchester - Tuesday 10 November

The One Show Rickshaw Challenge is back, with a new team of riders and routes across England which will stopping off in the historic city of Winchester. Matt Baker will do the honour of pressing the magic button and officially marking the start of Christmas in Winchester in front of 5 million viewers nationwide live on BBC’s popular prime-time programme The One Show.

Basingstoke - Friday 13 November

Breeze FM’s Breakfast presenters, Ben Moseby and Lizzie Crow will host the Christmas activities. Santa himself will turn the Christmas lights on, along with this year’s Anvil Panto star Mark Little (AKA Neighbours’ Joe Mangle). Adding to the Christmas entertainment will be The Military Wives Choir, made famous by Gareth Malone’s original BBC TV series, The Choir.

Portsmouth - Thursday 19 November

If last year is anything to go by, the 2015 Christmas light switch-on event and market will be well worth a visit if you’re in and around the area that day!

Andover - Friday 20 November

The event in Andover takes place between 5pm and 7.30pm and includes a whole range of local performers, rides and attractions, children’s face painting and a whole host of tasty food to keep you going before the main event.

Aldershot - Saturday 21 November

Entertainment in town, ranging from craft activities, live music, market stalls, brass bands, magic and a whole lot more. The Christmas lights will be switched on at around 4.45pm by CBeebies’ Cat Sandion alongside the Mayor of Rushmoor and cast members from local panto, Cinderella.

Fleet - Wednesday 25 November

As well as the traditional Christmas lights being switched on, you’ll also find a market with over 100 stalls, a giant snow globe, live music across three stages and magic street performers in Fleet for their festival this year.

Fareham - Sunday 29 November

A day perfect for all the family with performances from local groups and acts on stage with special guest appearances from the cast of Ferneham Hall’s Dick Whittington, Junior Citizen of Honour Harry Smith and The Mayor and Mayoress.
