Fleet is a fantastic place to settle down if you want to get out of the city. Unusually for the size of the town it is not built on a trunk road, as it is fairly new and built after the South Western Railway of 1840.
This once market town is full of newer buildings, although there are a few older Victorian buildings dotted about. Property was generally built during the property boom between the two World Wars and ranges in style and characteristics, although much was built in the same era.
Water features
The town also boasts two fantastic water features, Fleet Pond and the Basingstoke Canal. The pond is at the heart of the town and is home too much of the
area’s wildlife, with a path around the outside and a timber bridge to walk
along it’s a fantastic place to go for outdoor adventures.
The Basingstoke Canal runs to the south of the town and is now in full working condition after being restored during the 80s.
This landmark is also a fantastic place to fish and relax during a weekend away from the city.
Commuting
Commuting is easy living in Fleet. It is on a main railway line to both London Waterloo and cities along the south coast. Travelling to London takes as little as 40 minutes on the express trains and the station is situated in the centre so you do not need to worry about driving to the station. If you were to drive, the M3 is close by and is the most accessible link to London and also Southampton along the coast.
Property
With the current economic climate Fleet is extremely affordable. Peter Calamari, director of Waterfords estate agents in Fleet, believes that it is a fantastic place to move if you want to upsize. “In the past people have thought that it’s too expensive to move to Fleet but in the climate at the moment it’s a great time to move and a fantastic investment.” There are also many surrounding villages with plenty of character if you’re looking for something even quieter.
