Heroes Captured on Canvas

The Everyday Tommy brings together the Great War series of works by artist, Helen Chester. Witness the dramatic portraits of those who went to war and those who were deeply affected by it. Working closely with the ancestors of these men, Helen Chester has sought to weave each personal history into her portraits, making reference to where the individual came from, vignettes from the subject’s lives either during, or after the war and meticulous rendering of regimental badges in both paint and gold leaf.

Silver Service

Learn how to make a unique piece of sterling silver jewellery. Under the expert guidance of local Winchester jeweller and silversmith Daniel Musselwhite, who has over 15 years’ experience in the industry, try your hand at making a ring, pedant or bangle. All tools and materials are provided - classes are limited to an intimate six students so that you can get as much help as you need. Perfect for beginners too.

Sisters on Song

Fresh from a summer spent performing across Europe, The Spitfire Sisters bring their band back home to Winchester for the premiere of their theatre show, and to launch their brand new EP. The three-part vocal harmony group have been steadily building a reputation by recreating the vintage sounds of the ’30s and ’40s through nostalgic Andrews Sisters-style harmonies. Expect an evening of live music, dancing and some special guest performers!

Ship Ahoy

Launched by the French in 1744 as L’Invincible, then captured by the English in 1747 and renamed, HMS Invincible sank and its remains now lay in the Solent. This exhibition, by diver John Broomhead, brings the legend to life.

Explosive

Frantic Assembly present an explosive double-bill performed by one of the UK’s most innovative male dance companies. Dreaming in Code features a breathtaking collision of kinetically charged dance and theatre.

Wine Festival Winchester

Don’t miss this three-day celebration of the local wine scene. Hosted in person by Masters of Wine and TV presenters Susie Barrie and Peter Richards, the festival features hundreds of fine wines to taste, from top-notch English sparkling wine to global brands. There’s also delicious local food, masterclasses, freebies, a charity prize draw and exclusive savings. Plus a VIP night!

Stephen Venables - Life After Everest

After climbing a new route up the world’s highest mountain, reaching the summit alone without oxygen and surviving a record bivouac at 28,000 feet, you might think that Stephen Venables would have decided to hang up his boots. Far from it. This new show, illustrated with stunning images, features exciting tales of his adventures around the world, including his narrow escape from death in the Indian Himalaya, and rock climbing from the Arctic to the Namib Desert.

Lady Chute’s Afternoon Tea

Treat yourself to a delicious afternoon tea at The Vyne. Named after Lady Joan Chute, whose family lived at the country house for many years, Joan herself was head of the Women’s Institute, and a bit of an afternoon tea expert. Savour a selection of finger sandwiches and cakes, including a scone with jam and cream, all served on delicate china with tea or coffee. Book in advance or on arrival.

Celebrate fireworks night in style with Gunwharf Quays. Visitors can look forward to breathtaking scenes of vibrant colours over the harbour and Spinnaker Tower as they watch from the perfect viewpoint along Gunwharf Quays’ waterfront. Jam-packed with free entertainment for the whole family, enjoy premium outlet shopping, tempting dining offers and live music performances, as well as the spectacular fireworks display. Mencap will be collecting charity donations.
