Fairweather’s Wholesale Nursery in Beaulieu opens its doors for just one weekend a year on August 2 and 3 when visitors can see behind the scenes of one of the south’s leading producers of perennials.

The nursery sells 1.5 million pots a year throughout Europe and specialises in Agapanthus and Lavender, as well as introducing many new perennials such as ‘Trollius Dancing Flame’ at last year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Plant Heritage has granted National Collection status to Fairweather’s for their Agapanthus that extends to over 400 cultivars gathered from around the world. Hardy deciduous types are planted out in demonstration beds and the larger flowered evergreen types are grown in large containers. Visitors will also be able to see plants being grown for the Royal Horticultural Society Agapanthus trial.

Fairweather’s are responsible for bringing many of the best new Agapanthus cultivars to the market and this year’s new introductions include Happy Blue, Pretty Heidi and Pretty Wendy - all very hardy free flowering forms that are ideal for planting in borders.

Tours of the nursery with Patrick Fairweather will start at 11.30am and 2.30pm, including a demonstration of how to get the best from your Agapanthus and will include advice on how to combine Agapanthus in borders with other late flowering perennials.

Agapanthus and other perennials will be on sale throughout the day at special prices.

The adjacent garden of Aline Fairweather who runs Fairweather’s Garden Centre in Beaulieu with her son is open all day for Cream Teas and refreshments.

Entry is £2.50 to the National Gardens Scheme. In 2104 we gave over £3600 to the charity which provides valuable support to Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Hospice UK plus other worthwhile charities.

Fairweather’s Hilltop Nursery will be clearly signposted off the B3054 between Dibden Purlieu and Beaulieu at Hilltop, Beaulieu Hampshire SO42 7YR
