R.C Sherriff’s ‘Journey’s End’ returns to Micheldever

The Micheldever Variety Group and St Mary’s Church are staging Journey’s End as a tribute to the thirty men from the village who fought and died in the First World War.
The play was originally performed in Micheldever in 2009 and, due to popular demand linked with the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War it is to be performed again this year, over four nights in October.
‘RC Sherriff’s ground-breaking play remains one of the most powerful and successful pieces of modern drama and one of the most acclaimed examples of literature that deals with the tragedy and horror of conflict.’ Agents Review, 2014
The production takes great care to be as historically accurate as we can with costumes and set, including some props which date back to the period of the Great War itself. Our aim is to immerse the audience in the atmosphere - the sights, sounds and smells - of a dugout on the Western front in 1918.
Schools: ‘R. C. Sherriff’s play offers a compelling insight into life in the trenches towards the end of the First World War, based on Sherriff’s own experiences, and has become essential on school reading lists.’ Oxford Playhouse Review
