Mayflower Court is a hive of activity with plenty to enjoy. As it’s their resident’s home, they regularly choose what they would like to do

After a recent resident meeting, it was decided that an in-house pub is just what was needed to play host to the weekly general knowledge quizzes and gentleman get-together's. It's proving very popular.

Dinky Dancers, a local group of childminder and nursery children aged 3-4 years old, visit regularly to provide fleet footed entertainment. Residents enjoy interacting with the dancers and both young and old benefit from this. Anchor care homes enjoy numerous inter-generational projects, where residents can enjoy activities with schools and groups within the respective local communities. Research has shown that this has a significant impact on well-being.

Anchor are dedicated to providing quality dementia care and knowledge at Mayflower Court. Residents are able to enjoy use of our OMI Table. This is an interactive sensory experience where games, music and social activities are projected onto a table. It provides meaningful entertainment for residents, especially those living with dementia. Benefits include greater socialisation and communication and improved relationships with peers and staff.

Anchor encourage members of the local community to come into Mayflower Court for weekly Dementia Friends meetings. These aim to broaden knowledge on dementia and how to change people's perceptions of the condition. They are hosting a Dementia Information Session on Thursday 23 May 2019 as part of Dementia Action Week and welcome members of the local community to join.

Mealtimes are good opportunities for socialising and they also take great pride in the range of high quality, seasonally focused and nutritionally balanced meals available to residents on a daily basis. The catering team make an effort to get out of the kitchen and speak to the people that they cook for every day, finding out about personal preferences and dishes they particularly enjoy.

One of the residents recently commented: "The staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you. They are so caring and I enjoy talking with them."

Staff are dedicated to delivering personally-tailored care and are specially selected for their personal qualities, such as a natural desire to help. It's the small things that can make a big difference to the people in care, like taking time to have a friendly chat or share a joke.

In the most recent CQC inspection, published in March 2017, Mayflower Court was rated Good in all five areas inspected. Anchor was named 'Residential Care Provider of the Year' at the prestigious Health Investor Awards in 2018 and celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2018. It operates on a not-for-profit basis, which enables reinvestment in its care homes.
