Lymington’s Coastal Gallery will be hosting a major exhibition of work by nationally acclaimed artists this summer, as it takes part in the ever-popular Hampshire Open Studios 2016.

Attracting attention nationwide, the exhibition, Coastal Gallery: Open at ArtSway, runs from Saturday 20 - Monday 29 August, and will feature new and large-scale work from a select number of recognised national artists who are based in the region. The collection is a unique collaboration featuring installation art and ceramics to contemporary painting, prints and sculpture.

Acclaimed artists exhibiting through Coastal Gallery, Lymington will include:

• Stephen Powell – Exhibits widely throughout the UK and Europe, and has work in numerous private and public collections. Stephen has studios in the New Forest and France, where he runs highly successful painting and printmaking workshops in the summer months. His work ranges from small, intimate works on paper to large-scale pieces for public spaces.

• Julie Collins - Exhibits her work throughout the UK, and is regularly seen at prestigious exhibitions including the RI, the Royal Watercolour Society and the Discerning Eye exhibition at The Mall Galleries in London. She has received numerous awards for her work, and her paintings were selected by and shown in London by the distinguished art critic, Brian Sewell. She produces fresh, contemporary atmospheric land and seascapes.

• Chris Whittaker - Chris likes painting foliage and ‘the chaotic, messy bits of nature – the bits people walk past or over without noticing’. Working in oils and at life size, Chris has a meticulous eye for detail and a wonderfully quirky view of the world. He has exhibited widely in London, including the Brick Lane Gallery, the New English Art Club, Jozes London 2011, and the Mall Galleries, where he won the prestigious Company of Painters and Stainers Award.

• Jackie Giron - Jackie has exhibited throughout the UK and won prestigious ceramics awards for her stunning work. She is influenced by the work of Dame Lucie Rie, and produces hand thrown porcelain and stoneware bowls of all sizes. Jackie’s bowls are decorative, rather than functional, and inspired by the rock pools, geological strata, quality of light and colour of the sea, unique to the Hampshire and Dorset Coast.

Hampshire Open Studios is an annual art trail where the visiting public can meet artists. In the week leading up to August Bank Holiday, over 200 studios and galleries across Hampshire will open their doors. This is the fourth year that Lymington’s Coastal Gallery has taken part. This year, the gallery will not only participate at its Lymington venue but will at the same time, present Coastal Gallery: Open at ArtSway at leading arts venue, ArtSway. |
