We take a look at some home care and home help services on offer at Right at Home and what sets them apart. We also look into some signs and symptoms of the conditions that Right at Home provide care for

What type of care do Right at Home offer?

Right at Home offer a range of home care services and take pride in the relationship they build with both clients and their families.

Right at Home’s home help services include companionship, support, specialist care (caring for various medical conditions), personal care (assisting with personal hygiene and grooming), dementia care, Alzheimer’s support, hospital to home care, stroke rehabilitation and live in care.

Why are Right at Home a good alternative to traditional care services?

Setting themselves apart from other home care providers, Right at Home offer their clients a person-centric, bespoke care plan. Rather than a generic checklist, care plans are tailored for each individual client and their needs. As you’d expect, CareGivers go through a thorough recruitment and training process.

Whilst some home help services may offer care for a fixed time each visit, Right at Home’s visits are one hour long at the very least. Not only does this give the CareGiver more time to help with personal hygiene, companionship or physical assistance, it also allows time to build a relationship between the caregiver, the client and the family.

Right at Home offer care at home for people suffering with Alzheimer’s/dementia, as well as those in stroke rehabilitation. What are the signs of these conditions?

Alzheimer’s - Early signs of Alzheimer’s disease may include forgetfulness of recent events, misplacing items, trouble thinking of the correct word and poor judgement/decision making. As the disease develops the sufferer may become increasingly confused, show repetitive/impulsive behaviour, delusion and problems with speech. Late symptoms may include severe weight loss, loss of speech and significant memory problems. Click here for a more in depth look at the signs of Alzheimer’s.

Dementia – Dementia is a collection of symptoms caused by damage from different diseases (which could include Alzheimer’s). Common early dementia signs may include memory loss, difficulty concentrating and mood changes. Dementia types can vary, though, so it’s best to be wary of the many possible dementia stages, based on the disease it’s caused by. Click here for a more in depth look at the signs of dementia.

Stroke – Stroke symptoms are much more sudden and require immediate action. The main stroke symptoms to look out for are:

• Face: The face may have dropped on one side and the person may struggle smiling

• Arms: The person may not be able to lift their arms due to weakness and numbness

• Speech: This could become slurred or the person may not be able to talk at all

A loved one has received a dementia/Alzheimer’s diagnosis or is currently having treatment for stroke. How can Right at Home help?

Alzheimer’s and dementia - In dementia support and Alzheimer’s support, a safe environment is hugely important at a clients’ home. Right at Home caregivers are trained to ensure this safety as well as offering advice on any adaptations that may make life easier. They also provide emotional support and respite to family and loved ones.

Stroke rehabilitation

Stroke rehabilitation will often be a long process and Right at Home’s stroke care service places the focus on the individual and their independence. Following treatment for stroke, patients can be supported by caregivers from the comfort of the own home, following a customised stroke rehabilitation program provided by the hospital.
